From East London pass Butterworth (Gcuwa) then Idutywa – from Idutywa to the Viedgesville turnoff is 65km – look for signs and take the new flyover R411 towards Coffee Bay.
From Mthatha Ultra City travel 13km along the N2 towards East London and turn left towards Coffee Bay on the R411.
There are 3 different routes to we can advise on:
Option 1 – Ngcwanguba Route
From the Viedgesville turnoff/off-ramp towards Coffee Bay travel about 15km to Mqanduli.
Set your trip meter or check your odometer at the BP garage on the right hand side as your leaving Mqanduli. Drive approximately 42km from Mqanduli until you have Ngcwangubu Trading Store (on left hand side) look for dirt road on right side – there is a sign “Zidindi Clinic” turn right. Gravel road for about 18km. After roughly 8km turn left and proceed approximately 4,5km to the Zithulele intersection. Keep straight or slight left at this Y-intersection. Proceed for approximately 6,1km into the Hole in the Wall Village. At the junction the road continuing straight will take you to the Hole in the Wall Hotel so take a left past Gigi’s Pub & Accommodation. Continue for 400m or so. Take first turn right onto a very bad road, continue for short bit then keep left at fork– this will take you to Kamnandi Cottages no. 11. We’re the first cottages with ranch style wooden fence, gate and overhanging trees. Alternatively there is a new road after the steep rock road - the NEXT road right (It can be very muddy so proceed with caution) this road will bring you directly to Kamnandi Cottages straight ahead.
Option 2 - Coffee Bay Route
Drive approximately 78km to Coffee Bay, meandour through the village of Coffee Bay and keep on the same road. Just after it becomes gravel (Coffee Bay Hotel is on your right) take the 2nd turn to the right and up a steep hill. Pass over Bomvu Bridge and continue to the T-junction – turn right.
Proceed for approximately 3km then turn left at the junction. About 4km after you will be on the top of Black Rock looking down on the beautiful village of Hole in the Wall. Approximately 1km down the hill and along the straight stretch of road turn 3rd road left onto a very bad road – quite a sharp and steep turn. Continue for short bit then keep left at the fork – this will bring you to Kamnandi Cottages no. 11. We’re the first cottages with ranch style wooden fence, gate and overhanging trees. Alternatively there is a new road before the steep rock road - the 2nd road left from the top of the hill (It can be very muddy so proceed with caution) this road will bring you directly to Kamnandi Cottages straight ahead.
Option 3 – Zithulele Clinic Route
From N2 take the R411 road to Coffee Bay. Reset you odometer and drive 50km - turn right
(you’ll see broken sign on left saying Zithulele clinic/hole in the wall). Reset your odometer and drive 15.6km - turn left onto sand road. On the right hand side there will be a sign saying Hole in the Wall. Immediately after a bridge crossing KEEP Right up steep hill.
Drive 5km turn right at the T-junction. Continue straight for 5,5km keep on this road to the left to the HIW village. After 400m keep left (Gigi’s on left) If you go right you’ll end up at the Hole in the Wall Hotel.
About 300m you’ll see steep rocky road to your right (our usual turnoff road) it’s quite rocky - Continue for short bit then keep left at the fork – this will bring you to Kamnandi Cottages no. 11.
Alternatively there is a new road after the steep rock road - the NEXT road right (It can be very muddy so proceed with caution) this road will bring you directly to Kamnandi Cottages straight ahead.
